Unlike the EU and US versions of Catherine, the Japanese version is still plagued by text issues which in my opinion prevent this game from being defined as "playable".
Since there doesn't seem to be an existing thread, I decided to create a new one and report my findings with the latest build of RPCS3 as of now 0.4-6376.
Specs:
i7 7820x 4.7Ghz
16GB DDR4 3200
GTX 970
Windows 10 x64
The game works at full speed even when upscaled to 4k but in an attempt to remove as many variables as possible, I will be running it in strict mode at 720p for this report.
CPU settings
PPU and SPU: Recompiler LLVM and ASMJIT respectively
liblv2 only
Thread sheduler enabled
Spu loop detection enabled
GPU Vulkan and OpenGL are both showing the issues described below, all the other settings are on auto/disabled with strict rendering mode enabled.
To start off, the message nagging about network connection and leaderboards doesn't display when using native UI: https://imgur.com/BOqlljo
The message works fine in a separate window if I disable native UI.
As soon as the menu loads, you can see that all the Kanji in this game are not rendered properly and they are unreadable: https://imgur.com/WGlNstY
The only Kanji that render properly are those displayed during the loading screens, probably because they are either videos or loaded as images rather than text: https://imgur.com/WovvDxP
The text won't work in dialogues, sometimes a kanji or two is rendered properly like 事 at the end of the sentence in the following screenshot: https://imgur.com/ndA6Nyg
But even when they are rendered properly, they are often misplaced. Judging by the voice over, Kanji that are supposed to be at the beginning of the sentence sometimes end up displayed towards the end.
But ultimately what makes this game not "playable" like the EU and US versions are the cellphone messages where you are supposed to make choices by replying to text messages: https://imgur.com/ueP0Y7V
I also don't think the text on the left button below the cellphone screen is supposed to look like that.
And lastly, the text during the puzzle sections is also not displayed properly: https://imgur.com/DkgqXa0
I will attach the compressed log file to this thread.
I hope someone will look into the text issues I described.
The game has been running like this since August when I tried the emulator for the first time, I tried to play around with the settings but nothing seems to fix it.
