Why are you recommending people use stretch to display area? All that does is stretch the image, which is obviously awful.
Also, 1024x1024 scale threshold will make resolution scaling look worse. Only 580x580 is needed for this game.
Stretch to Display Area is not needed, and will only make it look horrible on non 16:9 monitors / when windowed with different aspect ratio's
Performs very well with me when upscaling. You can check the attached comparative picture, which I also included in your suggested setting. It appears your suggested Threshold Value works very well, too. Really Helpful suggestion!!
Good thing that you pointed out about screen ratio since I’m only dealing with a 16:9 ratio.
Btw, how did you figure out 580 value is well-suited for Res. Scale Threshold.
As you know, some playable games-titles requires a different set of value when upscaling (such as
Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z &
Remember Me ... so on). I usually follow the method of assuming the power of 2^n (256/512/1024) and luckily ended-up with well-rendered/performance.

By experimenting. It's always best not to increase it higher than required since the higher you go the worse it will look, and more chance other things will break.
Using 580x580 resolution scale threshold results in the text describing the mission when loading the game or a new chapter not being shown. I found that a resolution scale threshold of 860x860 plus stretch to display area "resolves" this bug, at the expense of some graphic quality.
The ninpo bar is broken no matter what when upscaling, sadly.
The game is still nowhere near playable, as it crashes every 10 to 20 minutes, especially after a death.

Beaten the game from start to finished with freezing issue at loading some cutscenes. Gameplay FPS is stable. Graphic/Cutscenes are well-rendered including fog/smoke/other effects. Sound/Effects are clearly working.

Doesn't matter what I do, I still crash at the end of Mission 2. Anyone got a solution?
In latest builds of RPCS3, you don't need to change resolution scaling threshold anymore to fix the pink issue. Resolution Scaling now works better across more games.
The new version fixes the resolution scaling! No more missing graphics in the HUD, nor the need to set a higher res scaling threshold. And it also seems to have fixed the game crashing at the tecmo logo! And after the ending of mission 2! GOOD WORK!

Despite the great improvements happened in the last month, the game still hangs. In the cutscene where Ryu gets the Blade of the Archfiend, to be more precise.
