Good day!

First of all, I am a huge fan of RPCS3, Incredible work! Anything that preserves the joy and memory of old school gaming is a gift to us all (scary to think that PS3 will soon be considered old school).  Thank you!

I am hoping that someone could give me some advice. I built  a computer primarily for emulation, and it handles everything great with the exception of PS3. I love having all my old games in one space, so its time to upgrade my CPU.

I have narrowed the options down to 10850k and 11600k. From what I can tell the performance is very similar, but I’m not certain and wanted to ask the community for input.

Which CPU would be best for RPCS3:

10850k with 10c/20t

11600k with 6c/12t

I have read that RPCS3 does not make use of more than 16 threads. So I assume that it will most likely only use 16 of the 20 cores on the 10850k.

Neither the 11600k or the 10850k are the ideal 8c/16t suggested by others. The 10700k is not as strong as the 11600k. And the 11700k is, well, not great.

This is perhaps for a different forum, but I’ll ask anyway…I narrowed down the options to these two based on similar performance and thermals. I think the 10850k will have better thermals since it is supposedly better silicon and would utilize less threads to achieve similar performance to the 11600k. Also, I heard the 10850k undervolts well, improving thermals.

I would go for the 10850k. It seem to be your choice.

If you will take CPU for a long time, f.e 4-5 years then - 10850k. Maybe today RPCS3 is not using more than 16 threads but in future it may go different.

You are correct, I am leaning towards the 10850k.

I suppose what makes the decision tricky is that it would seem the performance of the 11600k and 10850k have very similar multithread results... IF you only account for 8 of the 10 cores in the 10850k. (It has been said anything over 8 cores is not helpful in RPCS3)

So it comes down to whether RPCS3 would prefer the fast 6C/12T or an extra 2 cores and 4 threads?

Perhaps the programmer can give you a better answer but as a user i would pefer the extra cores for now and future.

Thanks for your input, appreciated. Yea, I think you are right, the programmer will have to answer this.
