Nier Audio and Visual Glitches

I have 2 main issues with Nier (BLUS30481) but only one is present at a time
If I use the Vulkan renderer then I get absolutely horrible audio crackling 
If I use OpenGL the audio crackling goes away but the graphics looks worse and causes the dynamic lighting to flicker uncontrollably
If I set the any resolution setting too high the game doesn't start and just stays at a black screen
I'm running it at 1280x720 at 200% scale and 128x128 threshold

I've tried:
  • changing the PPU decoders
  • changing SPU decoders
  • SPU threads
  • SPU block size
  • using accurate xfloat
  • Changing resolution, scale, and scale threshold
  • enabling/disabling vsync
  • changing audio settings
Nothing has fixed either problem and both problems exist on NieR: RepliCant as well


My specs:
  • Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
  • i7-4790k
  • Nvidia GTX 970
  • 16GB DDR3 RAM
If any additional information is needed please let me know and I'll try my best to provide it.

I should also mention that I've gone back to test the game with each new build that has gotten released.
So on the latest version the light flickering on OpenGL has gotten significantly worse and the audio crackling on Vulkan has gone down a lot but is still apparent enough to be annoying, if not problematic.

Update: Currently using latest version of RPCS3
Using Vulkan seems to have cut down the crackling a pretty good amount but now there's a ton of light flickering
So the problems are still persisting and I'm at a complete loss as to what I should do now

Lighting instability is a known issue
Use the WIP build from https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/pull/5276 that has bugfixes that affect NieR

The light instability doesn't seem to be as bad as I originally made it out to be so I can live with that.
In regards to audio crackling what I have noticed, and this has been consistent with the last 3 or so releases of RPCS3, is that lowering the Resolution Scale helps a small amount but it seems once the game has loaded too many things (areas, enemies, etc.) the audio crackling worsens and doesn't go away
I tried using the WIP build but it didn't help with either problem, but that could have just been me not setting it up correctly.

Update: So I've noticed that lowering that anisotropic filter (from 16x to 4x) has helped with the audio crackling significantly but again, after a certain point (seems consistently after 2 loading screens) it worsens and doesn't go away.
Setting it any lower (to 2x or Force Disabled) actually makes the crackling worse.
Updating the firmware doesn't seem to have helped any.
Sometimes the audio starts crackling immediately upon loading in and sometimes it's after 2 load screens and sometimes just in certain areas (i.e fishing village near the water)
I'm running out of things to change to try and mitigate the crackling and I've been at this for many months already.

Sounds unrelated, af shouldn't hurt audio. Also never set anisotropic filtering to "force disable" it means that even the game cannot use it's own filtering. Audio issues usually stem from poor spu performance, trying interpreters is going to make it worse so there's no point trying that. Best thing to do would be to try defaults + spu llvm (if it works with the game) and change preferred spu threads to 1-3 see what's best. And with NieR make sure you have framelimiter set to 30, because RPCS3 isn't capping the framerate to 30 properly which is what the game is supposed to run at. And make sure you have write color buffers enabled.
