ni no kuni freezes after cutscene ends

i am trying to play Ni no Kuni - Wrath of the White Witch [BLES01555]. there is an issue with the game in which it freezes after a custcene ends and the next custscene will not start. the next cutscene will only start if i skip the previous cutscene before it ends

my laptop is alienware 17, graphics card is gtx 880m 8gb ram and 32 gb memory, 4core i7 2.9ghz and i am running win 8.1 64bit. my cpu model is Intel® Core™ i7-4910MQ CPU @ 2.90GHz, 2901 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

ok. i guess i can skip the custscenes and watch them on youtube. however there is another issue. the emulator randomly crashes sometimes. is that normal for this game?
