Intel i9 9900K
16 GB 3000MHz DDR4
NVIDIA RTX 2080 (Driver 419.67)

Vulkan with default settings

Game should be labeled INGAME

This game is essentially in the same state as Madden NFL 15 & 16 so I'm going to almost copy and paste my post from Madden 16. Game plays and performance is acceptable on my hardware at 30-40 FPS in game, but it is likely not playable on lower end hardware. Regardless, it has the same three graphical glitches.

First, the cinematic cameras are still blurry. It's not every single cutaway for a replay that does this, but a vast majority are out of focus. Few are clear as they are supposed to be. Example here:

Second, the field is black yet again, with weird discoloration where daylight comes through as seen here:

Finally, we have another instance of half the screen being brighter than the other half. It almost looks here like the "shiny" edge of the graphic is casting light off that causes half the screen to be lighter, but I don't know enough about this stuff to confirm. Just a theory I have. Example here:

RPCS3 v0.0.8-9568-bcbe3245 Alpha | HEAD | FW 4.85 | Windows 10 1909
Intel Core i9-9900K | 16 Threads | 15.86 GiB RAM | AVX+ | TSX-FA
GPU: GeForce RTX 2080 (442.19)

Game should be moved to PLAYABLE. The graphical issues I mentioned in my comment above are all fixed. Force CPU blit + WCB is needed to avoid weird textures on field. Disable async shaders is also needed for first boot into the game in order to avoid completely black field, it can be disabled after that. Game runs well enough at anywhere from 40-60 FPS during plays.

Hi everyone,

First thanks for such a nice program. I am having an issue with this game it misses some letters like in the description of plays for instance "ask Madden" shows " sk Madden" where the "a" misses. It is the same with a lot of plays wich is kind of annoying.
Since this game si marked playable are there any settings to enable the text to show correctly ?
Thanks again

i was able to use all of your reccommended settings but after launching play now and hitting x through the menus.. once i hit x to avdance to game it freezes with this crash after a few seconds.
F {PPU[0x100001a] Thread (FGGameRender) [0x003d5fac]} SIG: Thread terminated due to fatal error: Verification failed
(in file D:\a\1\s\rpcs3\Emu\RSX\VK\VKRenderTargets.h:601[:10], in function as_rtt) (e=0x0000007e[126])

I spent some time getting this title to work.

After some testing i suspect newer versions of rpcs3 have a regression with madden titles causing this error to occur when attempting to load the game:

F {PPU[0x100001a] Thread (FGGameRender) [0x003d5fac]} SIG: Thread terminated due to fatal error: Verification failed
(in file D:\a\1\s\rpcs3\Emu\RSX\VK\VKRenderTargets.h:601[:10], in function as_rtt) (e=0x0000007e[126])

I tried this version: (rpcs3-v0.0.10-10518-c764925b_win64) and the game boots fine without the issue every single time.

There is also an issue with an audio and visual studder/lag after every play being caused by the game attempting to record and save the instant replays resulting in this error:
E {PPU[0x1000005] Thread (/dev_hdd0) [0x02712090]} SYS: 'sys_fs_open' failed with 0x80010006 : CELL_ENOENT, “/dev_hdd1/Replays/savedreplay001.ply” [1]

This issue can be helped, but not fixed completely by setting your FPS limit to 30.

There is also still the issues with the black field which can be fixed by enabling WCB + Force CPU blit, and disabling async shaders on first boot.

In Summary:

If you are looking to play madden 17 and possibly this may apply to other madden titles as well,
-Use version (rpcs3-v0.0.10-10518-c764925b_win64)
-Enable WCB + Force CPU blit, and disable async shader on first boot to fix the black field. (you can re-enable async after loading in a match for the first time)
-Limit FPS to 30 if you are experiencing audio studder and game lag after each play(Caused by instant replay). This wont fix it completely, but will help minimize it.

Let me know if this helps anyone get the game working for them so i know if this information is helpful / correct.

If you've found a regression (an issue that only started happening recently) then you'll need to go through proper channels to make a detailed report so it can be fixed. Most importantly, this means finding what build/pull request caused the issue to occur.

Go to and download builds in-between where you think it was working and when it broke, don't go back one build at a time as that will take forever. Simply extract the RPCS3.exe file to your current RPCS3 folder, you don't need to make a new folder every time. You can even have multiple RPCS3.exe files in your folder as long as you name them differently.

Once you've narrowed it down to one build, go back to the downloads page, and click on the Pull Request number to the left of the build. It should be something like: #9000 Scroll down through the comments and check if anyone else had mentioned any issues with it, or if there was an open issue report linking to the report. If there was already an open issue mentioning the same issue you were having then you can comment on that issue if it needs more information, or wait for it to be fixed.

If there wasn't an issue reported/mentioned, then go to and start writing a regression report, be sure to include a link of the pull request where the issue started to occur and write all the relevant information. Submit the report and you're done.
If you need help, ask on our discord it's by far the most active place for RPCS3 discussion.
