RPCS3 crashes while compiling PPU modules when starting games

I've recently made some significant upgrades to my computer, and ever since then I haven't been able to get any games to boot up. In particular, RPCS3 and/or Windows will crash right when compiling PPU modules. I've tried updating RPCS3 and doing a fresh install; notably, the fresh install also crashes while installing firmware. In every case, I hear my CPU fans spin up wildly right before everything crashes.
