I'm sure this is intended. They're meant to be lore related while masking a loading screen. The game should begin proper afterwards.

Beaten the game from start to finished using patch.  Gameplay FPS is Variable. (A highly extreme set of PPU modules are successfully built for initiative run | An instant FPS drops/recovery at certain spot ). Graphic/Cutscenes are well-rendered.  Sound/Effects are clearly working. (Manage to get Full HDDdata = 8.37GB)

# Gameplay FPS = (48~59~60) – No sound effect/Incorrect installed data
# Gameplay FPS = (18~29~39~60) – with sound effect/correct installed data
# Gameplay MGS1 FPS = (59~60) – windowed mode
# Cutscenes Variable (19~20) | (29/30~ 59/60) – Video & Sound are sync
# RPCS3 v0.0.16-12220-a043e95d Alpha
# Canary Patch is used.  Ref to RPCS3 wiki (thanks to elad335)
# Default setting [Res. scale= 300% Fullscreen 4K]
# Intel i9-9900K @ 3.60GHz | 32GB RAM | 2070S 8GB Nvidia | NVMe storage (3500MB/2500MB Read/Write).

3-known Issues with possible solution:-

Issue #1 No Sound Effect (menu/gun shooting)
# Missing files, although message indicated that installation was complete.
# Occur at version 0.0.15-1XXXX or Later
  • Get Full HDDdata using older version (0.0.14 or below).
  • Move HDDdata (8.37GB) from \dev_hdd0\game\MGS4_ID into latest version.
    If encountered request for re-installation due to loading a savegame, let it refresh installation & restart game.
Issue #2 Frequent Freezing
# VM: Access violation writing location 0x68 (unmapped memory) [type=u32]
  • Set Driver Wake-Up Delay = 350us (Advanced)
  • Apply MGS4 patch (Patch Manager)
    Copy canary patch script from RPCS3 Wiki (MGS4).
    Add/Paste the script manually into “patch.yml” at “patch” folder
    Enable MGS4 patch from Patch Manager
Issue #3 RPCS3 Fatal Error MGS1 PS1 Flashback
# Savegame “ACT 4 Briefing End“ cannot be loaded after Wolf screen loading
# Problems with popping-up windows for precompiling SPU/PPU process
  • Remove shader Cache.
  • Play on default Monitor (in windowed Mode till you pass MGS1)

Version Comparative:
# Game works fine without sound effects/ Less size installed HDDdata/No patch applied
# Game Freezes frequently with sound effects/Full-installed HDDdata /No patch applied
# Game works perfect with sound effects/Full-installed HDDdata /patch applied
# Tested version list that have full/less HDDdata

As for Issue #1 and the version comparative, version 0.0.16-12375 did have only 2.97GB installed and no sound effects, but versions 0.0.14 and 0.0.06 only had 3.90GB installed instead of the correct 8.37GB. I have Sound Effects now and no issues yet, but it's obvious that not everything has been installed based on the file size. I'll update once I've run into any issues.

I still get this error. Even with high driver wake-up delay the game still freezes every few minutes. Longest I could do was 1 hour I think. Looking at your CPU I wonder if it's TSX vs lack of it at play.

Played through the entirety of MGS4 over about 20 hours.

Game Version: 2.00.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7700, undervolted with PBO -20. Stayed at 5.35 Ghz the whole time.
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800
RPCS3 Versions: I updated while playing, so whatever were the latest builds from September 10 to September 22, 2023.
OS: Windows 10.

Config was defaults plus wiki settings plus:
* GPU: Resolution scale: 200% (2560x1440)
* GPU: Anisotropic filter: 16x
* Audio: Enable Buffering: 100 ms
* Audio: Enable Time Stretching: 75%
* Advanced: RSX FIFO Accuracy: Mid-play I swapped from the recommended 'Ordered' to 'Ordered & Atomic'.

Patches:
* cellSpurs urgent commands hack - 4.90
* Crash fix (0x68 crash)
* Unlock FPS

First-run module compiling took 60-75 minutes. Loading in an area for the first time was usually about 45 seconds of module compiling which breaks your flow pretty badly.

Major issues. I had 6-8 crashes, all 0x68 crashes. Two crashes in act 3, two in act 4, and the rest in act 5. I then swapped the RSX FIFO Accuracy from 'Ordered' to 'Ordered & Atomic' and experienced no more crashes. I can't know if this was random chance or if the setting had an effect.

FPS slowdowns. Whenever a cutscene looked down on a low-flying helicopter the FPS absolutely tanked, down as low as the 20s. These shots never lasted more than a few seconds. Some of the more detailed cutscenes from ground level, especially in the opening scenes, would sometimes have the FPS drop low, and sometimes be fine. I didn't notice lower framerates during gameplay but I wasn't watching as closely there. This mostly crushes PS3 framerates, however.

Audio. I set the audio buffering and time stretching configs in order to fix crackling issues during codec calls from Raiden and Drebin. These settings fixed 99% of those sound issues. I did not experience the missing audio issues other have reported.

I used an XBox controller so I had a lot of concern about some required sixaxis controller sections, but there were no issues. The boss fight where I'd thought it was required can be completed by wiggling the right stick instead of shaking the controller. However it's impossible to peek out from a dumpster without the sixaxis controller, though I never felt like I was missing anything without that.

Almost Playable
Updating post (103) & applying manually RPCS3 Canary Patch. (Use text editor > Add canary script on the end and save > DO NOT Update patch manager from RPCS3 > Enable Canary patch following your FW version)   Gameplay FPS is Variable. Graphics/Cutscenes are well-rendered.  Sound/Effects are clearly working.

@ Config Applied
Enable Write Color Buffers (GPU)

@ Precompilation Period (Latest Version)
# Take almost Less than 1 hr (no Patched Enabled for 1st run)
# Take almost Less than 2~1 hr (Patched Enabled or each time new different patched is enabled for 1st run)
# Take almost Less than 1 min (2nd/3rd run what so ever, as long as nothing is enabled from "patch manager" for MGS4)
so, choose you patch wisely

@ Stability Performance
# Set Driver Wake-Up Delay = 350us (Advanced) @ i9-9900K
# Set Driver Wake-Up Delay = 420us (Advanced) @ i9-11900K
