Hello, I have an issue where every game i boot just shows a black screen, the game runs in the backround but there is just a black screen, I've used DDU to get rid of my drivers and anything related to my drivers, when I reinstalled then i tested again and had the same issue, I updated the Vulkan runtime with the latest version and I still have this problem, Does anyone know how to fix it?

Since this is happening on both of my machines ive included specs for both.

I've moved it to the desktop now and still have the same issue, I'll add a new log file.

Don't see anything wrong

Maybe it's a bug specific to older CPUs?

I think you need to press X or Enter in the first screen for something to show up, don't remember exactly

You can try three things

First, try verifying your game dump with PS3 Disc Dumper
https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?title=H...game_dumps

Second, try booting the .self file for the game directly inside path_to_disc/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/XXXX.self , probably kingdom2.self or something similar

Third, try using both PPU and SPU Decoders on Interpreter (Precise) and see if it works

I've tried all of the suggestions you have offered, sadly none of them yielded any results, game still boots and runs with a black screen. I'm going to reload windows and reinstall the drivers, I think vulkan has a few issues because recently I used DDU in the past i got the game to boot properly once and after I closed it to do controller mapping, it never launched again, So it can launch and used to work flawlessly in the past on both of my machines.

The issues started when I installed Doom 2016 and updated my vulkan drivers to their latest runtime available, so I can only assume that has caused an issue with RPCS3 and the vulkan it uses vs the latest version available.

Same for me it seems, but I only have Demon's Souls to test (game verified with the program mentioned above, no problem, all 12k+ files are valid).

Vulkan gives me a black screen (I can hear the game tho), I have "Write Color Buffers" checked since it's apparently required for this game.

It seems to work fine with OpenGL. Apparently Vulkan is much faster, that's why I'd like to be able to use it.

i5 4670K and a GTX 970 with up-to-date drivers (446.14). Vulkan works fine in games (DOOM 2016, Talos Principle, etc.) and programs (RetroArch for example).

Sorry for not updating this earlier, I was waiting for my post to be approved by moderation and then went to sleep :p

So I'm not sure why but it's now working for me, what I did (from what I can recall at least): extracted a previous version in a different location and the game worked, switched back to my "primary" RPCS3 and it started to work. But that doesn't make too much sense to me, AFAIK since it was in a different folder, it shouldn't have affected my "primary" RPCS3, right?

Maybe I had something running in the background that was conflicting with RPCS3 somehow? I'm really not sure :/ But I'll try to be more precise if it happens to me again.

Ah, it's happening again :p I even tried a full reboot but the screen stays black with Vulkan. It was working fine earlier today, so weird.

It's so frustrating because I have no clue of what I did that could trigger the bug. I did some stuff but completely unrelated with RPCS3 (built some programs with MinGW64, tested things in VMware), but even if it was a conflict with that, I guess the reboot should've fixed that...

Yeah, I'm not sure what causes the issue, I've found that it can go from working flawlessly to broken in no time at all and with minimal effort, everytime it has started working for me was with every option for DDU selected to try remove every driver for Vulkan and Nvidia, but it breaks after one launch.

I am convinced it is an issue with the vulkan drivers that are installed with games or updated manually as a completely fresh install of windows with only Nvidia drivers installed has always worked and then Doom 2016 or something else with vulkan comes along and that is usually when it breaks everything.

I am currently doing a system backup and will be wiping my drives to reinstall windows, so as I go I should be able to hopefully find the point where it breaks and maybe what breaks it to begin with.

Ah! Just found the culprit (at least in my case): MSI Afterburner!

If I have it displaying my FPS I get a black screen ingame, if I disable the overlay I can see the game. No idea why it only affects Vulkan tho ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, if you're using MSI Afterburner (or some other program doing some kind of overlay maybe?), try turning it OFF!

You are a genius, I never would have thought of that as I have never had the issue with MSI Afterburner and Rivatuner, I was actually just coming to login and say after a fresh windows my version is still super broken.

I feel like a bit dumb now because I've seen overlays sometimes cause all sorts of issues with games and applications.

I would have never thought of it because its part of my first time setup with windows installs.
