running to fast

I want to start off by saying I am new to this emulator, and I love it. I am having a problem I'm hoping someone could clear up. When I am running simple games like Sonic and Hotline Miami they run to fast to play. I'm pretty sure it is because i'm getting an insane number of frames (300-500). Is there a way to limit frame rate and is that my problem?

I'm using:
I7 8700
EVGA GTX 1080 SC
16 GB ram
SSD Windows 10

GPU -> Frame Limiter -> 30 or 60 (depends on whether the game works properly with 60 or not)
