It might be worth mentioning that when the emulation "hangs" (0 % CPU usage), PC points at "rdch $3, $SPU_RdInMbox" in the thread called "_synth2 Thread"

I don't know what this is since it seems Cell specific although Google tells me it is some kind of blocking reading, so it makes sense that emulation hangs I guess. Stepping over it does not work since we return back from somewhere since some condition must not be met.
