Played through the entirety of MGS4 over about 20 hours.
Game Version: 2.00.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7700, undervolted with PBO -20. Stayed at 5.35 Ghz the whole time.
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6800
RPCS3 Versions: I updated while playing, so whatever were the latest builds from September 10 to September 22, 2023.
OS: Windows 10.
Config was defaults plus wiki settings plus:
* GPU: Resolution scale: 200% (2560x1440)
* GPU: Anisotropic filter: 16x
* Audio: Enable Buffering: 100 ms
* Audio: Enable Time Stretching: 75%
* Advanced: RSX FIFO Accuracy: Mid-play I swapped from the recommended 'Ordered' to 'Ordered & Atomic'.
Patches:
* cellSpurs urgent commands hack - 4.90
* Crash fix (0x68 crash)
* Unlock FPS
First-run module compiling took 60-75 minutes. Loading in an area for the first time was usually about 45 seconds of module compiling which breaks your flow pretty badly.
Major issues. I had 6-8 crashes, all 0x68 crashes. Two crashes in act 3, two in act 4, and the rest in act 5. I then swapped the RSX FIFO Accuracy from 'Ordered' to 'Ordered & Atomic' and experienced no more crashes. I can't know if this was random chance or if the setting had an effect.
FPS slowdowns. Whenever a cutscene looked down on a low-flying helicopter the FPS absolutely tanked, down as low as the 20s. These shots never lasted more than a few seconds. Some of the more detailed cutscenes from ground level, especially in the opening scenes, would sometimes have the FPS drop low, and sometimes be fine. I didn't notice lower framerates during gameplay but I wasn't watching as closely there. This mostly crushes PS3 framerates, however.
Audio. I set the audio buffering and time stretching configs in order to fix crackling issues during codec calls from Raiden and Drebin. These settings fixed 99% of those sound issues. I did not experience the missing audio issues other have reported.
I used an XBox controller so I had a lot of concern about some required sixaxis controller sections, but there were no issues. The boss fight where I'd thought it was required can be completed by wiggling the right stick instead of shaking the controller. However it's impossible to peek out from a dumpster without the sixaxis controller, though I never felt like I was missing anything without that.
