Third party DS4 control crashes the emulator

i can't access DS4 Handle with the third party controller plugged in or it will crash. if i unplug the control, i can launch the game or switch to DS4 handle just fine. if i switch to the handle then connect the control after. when i launch the game, it still crashes.

can i use third party controllers with RPCS3? i just bought this control just for the emulator. it still works with steam games so it's not a faulty controller.
