God of War 3 - Opening Chests and Gliding Issues

I'm trying to play GOW 3.  I first tried using the wiki settings but was still crashing regularly.  I then switched to the settings in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpP8Uf0_Mek&t=115s.  I'm able to play without crashing but there are two frustrating issues which both relate to holding down buttons.  When Kratos tries opening a chest he often will stop in the middle.  Sometimes it will work on the first time and other times I need to try it 20-30 or more times to have him successfully open it.  Same things with gliding with the wings.  Sometimes if I hold down X he will glide fine and other times he will start and immediately fall.  I've tried connecting my controller via cable and also holding other buttons when holding down R1 or X.  

Is there a setting in the config that helps with these issues?  Thanks so much.

Missing log file but the issue is likely because you're using the 60 FPS patch which is broken.
