Unsure what exactly happened, but, I was playing through Armored Core: For Answer and things were working fine for the longest time, although I updated to the latest RPCS3 version and it seems like it crashes immediately upon running.
Couldn't quite get a line of troubleshooting consistency, it seems like the issue starts somewhere different every time I re run the emulator. I've tried fiddling with setting things to pure default/wiki recommendations, factory reinstalling my GPU drivers, and trying a clean install or older versions of the emulator, but issues persist still.
I'll walk through how things are going so far.
Recently, I'd say on 03/12/25 I was on a version 32 update, moving over to the current version you see at the very bottom here. This was mostly to see if it would address some performance issues I was having Armored Core: For Answer, but after I updated it, it seems like every chance I started to run the game, I would have a rotating list of issues:
Majority of the time the game would just crash.
Occasionally it would boot, but some 2D sprites would flicker and FMVs would fail to properly play.
Occasionally it would manage to boot, the 2D sprites load, but emulation would hardly reach above 10-15fps and had some audio slow down that sounded even slower than that -- like there was a desync of some kind.
Other times it would just boot any of the games to a black screen but seemingly no crash error.
Rolling back to the previous version didnt seem to really help me, nor was running from a clean directory or a similar previous update number. When there was a crash, error line would occur regardless of if it was Defaults or Recommended Settings:
"F {PPU[0x1000000] Thread (main_thread) [0x00efd0a8]} VM: Access violation reading location 0x3030378 (unmapped memory)"
Grabbed the logs for this but also for 2 others where there wasn't any crashing that I could find, but just severely degraded performance. All three of these I've played from beginning to end in the past, two of them to 100% even.
Still trying to piece together what exactly went wrong, but, here's my machine specs:
Firmware version: 4.92
RPCS3 Version: 0.0.35-17645-7b212e0e Alpha
Windows 11 24H2
MSI x870e GODLIKE (Bios ver 1.A27)
Ryzen 7 9800x3D
Radeon RX 6800 XT
Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus NVME
X2 32 GB Gskill F5 @ 5600
Hopefully someone can see where exactly I went wrong here -- A little stumped. I'm doubtful at this point its just the emulator, but, More curious *why* only the emulator.
