With Coffee Lake on the horizon and Ryzen already out, what are your thoughts on either one or a comparison of the 2? Ryzen will offer more cores, but at a lower clockspeed. It looks like people are able to overclock the ryzen 1950X to 4 ghz on all 16 cores if you really want it.

on the other hand coffee lake will support all 6 cores at at 4.3 out of the box, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it reach 4.5 to 4.7+ on all 6 cores for people who want to make it happen.

It will be interesting to see how the ipc compares between the two. what are your guys thoughts?

My thoughts are: It doesn't exist yet, wait for benchmarks and prices.

Probably it will be faster in terms of absolute fps but also more expensive and require a $100 cooler because Intel will still use toothpaste between the IHS and the die.

I see both as being more than enough for RPCS3 once we get more optimizations, due this I would pick whatever fits your budget and needs more outside of RPCS3. Personally I would recommend Ryzen, but if you can't buy now then I would wait for gen2 it's going to be 7nm while cofee lake is 14nm (same as gen1 ryzen) so it will be quite attractive price/perf.
