Full Version: Vulkan Check Timeout (but Vulkan works on system, drivers updated and games run fine)

On my first install there was no error, but after it eventually stopped responding and crashed each subsequent boot would have the following error:

"
Vulkan Check Timeout
Querying for Vulkan compatible devices is taking too long. This is usually caused by malfunctioning graphics drivers, reinstalling them could fix the issue.
Selecting ignore starts emulator without Vulkan Support
"

If I click ignore I am able to run a game just fine, but why is the error occurring only after an initial run? If it was an issue with my graphics drivers I would have expected it to occur during the initial run as well.

Regardless, to check, I installed the Vulkan SDK from here:

https://www.lunarg.com/vulkan-sdk/

And once installed I entered "vulkaninfo" into the command prompt (as suggested in other threads I found by searching.). If vulkan wasn't working I would have seen an error, but instead I saw a wall of text so it's safe to assume that Vulkan works. I copied that wall of text to wordpad and am attaching it for your reference.

For good measure I fully closed and re-opened RPCS3 after installing the Vulkan SDK just in case it would make a difference, but the error came up regardless. This issue has persisted through 3 versions in one day.

I have attached the log from that time as well.

Gameplay seems unaffected thus far, but I assume that Vulkan is important so I'd like to figure this out.

As the above code shows, I have two Vulkan compatible GPU's in this system. The "Intel UHD Graphics 770" is built into the motherboard while the "Nvidia 1080 Ti" is what I primarily use.

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit  22H2 (Ameliorated)
RAM: 64 GB DDR4
CPU: 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-12700K  3.60 GHz

I checked dxdiag and it shows that the driver was from August 2024 and shows no problems.

Even though Vulkan works, and even though games ran, and even though the drivers are only a few months old, I updated the GeForce drivers to 576.65 as a new version was available as of May 19th 2025 per this page:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/245673/

After doing this the error DID go away. However, the very next day after the program stopped responding when it was booted up again I once again got the error. And again, games run fine.

This time there are no available updates to the graphics drivers so I have taken every step I could possibly take before reporting this (RPCS3 is up to date, drivers are up to date, verified that vulkan is supported). It's fairly obvious that this error is the direct result of the program crashing rather than a problem with the drivers. My supposition is that updating the graphics drivers only temporarily fixed it by refreshing something, much like how while updating everything that uses graphics has to be reloaded. The crash might not be releasing something so it then can't use it anymore? However, with all the stuff I have open I really can't restart the computer every few hours if that's the case.

If it helps, both of the crashes that caused this coincided with attempting to install a package file rather than a crash during actual gameplay and in both cases the package file (which was dumped from my long dead PS3 phat years ago) installed just fine and ran just fine after booting from the crash. Also in both cases the program ran for a few hours prior to the crash occurring.
