i understand. it can be quite anoying, but its too exciting to not ask. i supose we all have to be very patient.

If its not weird for me to ask, why do you guys call it a "PPU recompiler"? What does PPU abbreviate to?

Afaik PS3 uses Cell which is Power Architecture, no? Do you mean something else with PPU cuz its confusing hearing PPU this, PPU that etc. and not knowing exactly what you're referring to especially when PPU doesn't sound (at least to me) like PowerPC/Power Architecture.

Cell basically has 2 PPU (Power Processor Units) cores and 7 SPU (Synergistic Processing Units) cores. The two PPU cores is the general purpose CPU which all games use to run general game code. The SPU cores have their own instruction set and are used for whatever the developers of a game could make them useful for. Some games like Disgaea 3 and Arkedo don't seem to use them much at all.

So basically, the two PPU cores in the Cell processor are the equivalent of the normal x86 processor in your PC. The bulk of all calculations usually happen here I guess. It is therefore that the PPU recompiler should make things significantly faster.

The power processing element PPE is also called PPU power processing unit sometimes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_BE#Po..._.28PPE.29

Also, just to be perfectly clear the PPU is just one core, it is multi-threaded in a fashion comparable to the Pentium 4 HT, so it's 2 logical cores and 1 physical core
